Plan exam capacity: monthly starts and simultaneous attempts
Monthly attempt allowance and simultaneous attempt allowance answer different questions. The first covers how many attempts begin in a billing month; the second limits how many real attempts are active at one time across an author's exams.

Estimate monthly starts, including retakes
Count expected starts for each exam and include practice rounds, repeat attempts and separate cohorts. One person beginning three attempts uses three starts, not one participant place. Keep some room for planned retakes rather than treating every available start as a first sitting. Check the current pricing page and account usage for the actual allowance and monthly boundary that apply to your plan.
Estimate overlap across all your exams
A session of forty participants starting together needs room for forty active attempts, even if the monthly allowance is much larger. Two overlapping groups owned by the same author share the concurrent allowance. Longer durations increase overlap when groups start in waves. Use the timetable and expected completion times to model the busiest period rather than looking only at the total roster.
Distinguish access policy from a service guarantee
An account's concurrent limit is a product allowance. It is not a claim about guaranteed response time, network reliability or the maximum capacity of the entire service. A large or critical event deserves a rehearsal with the actual access and device conditions. Discuss custom needs through the Enterprise inquiry process rather than assuming a self-service plan covers every operational requirement.
Prepare a practical session plan
Check usage and published-exam limits before the event, send invitations early and give participants a support route. If groups are staggered, allow a buffer for attempts that finish later than expected. Explain that a started attempt should be resumed rather than replaced after a connection problem. Review actual starts and overlap after the session so the next schedule is based on observed use.
Before you publish
- The monthly forecast counts attempts, including repeat starts.
- The busiest overlapping groups fit the author's concurrent allowance.
- A rehearsal and support plan exist for an important event.
Questions, answered
- Is monthly allowance the number of unique students?
- No. It counts started attempts. A participant who starts more than one attempt contributes more than one start.
- Does a concurrent limit promise an infrastructure SLA?
- No. It sets the account's allowed active attempts. Contractual service commitments require an explicit agreement.
